Technical Tips

Problem: My computer won’t shut down. I tried pressing the power button already. What should I do now?

Tip: First, hold the power button down for four to five seconds. If that fails to shut it down, pull the plug from the wall or the back of the machine. Some machines also have a master power switch on the back of the power supply.

Problem: My screen resolution has changed. Now I can’t see everything.

Tip: Right click the mouse anywhere on the Windows Desktop background, other than an Icon or Toolbar. Select PROPERTIES from the drop-down box. Now you have opened Display Properties. Select the SETTINGS tab on the far right. Now you can increase your RESOLUTION. Try 800x600 for 15-inch monitors and 1024x768 for 17- and 19-inch monitors.

Cookies are messages that a Web server transmits to a Web browser so that the Web server can keep track of the user's activity on a specific Web site. The message that the Web server conveys to the browser is in the form of an HTTP header that consists of a text-only string.

The text is entered into the memory of the browser. The browser in turn stores the cookie information on the hard drive so when the browser is closed and reopened at a later date the cookie information is still available.
